In the heart of Mayfair, London's most exclusive district, The Connaught has a reputation for some of London's best service, and such celebrities as Mick Jagger and Karl Lagerfeld are repeat customers. It's three blocks to famed Bond Street, mentioned in Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility," for high-end designer shopping. Hyde Park and Oxford Street are both also within five blocks of the hotel. A grand mahogany staircase, luxurious carpets, and fireplaces highlight the classic England ambiance. A renovation in 2007 will bring the hotel up to the twenty-first century, but the old world service will remain. Butlers can be summoned to guest rooms, and the guest rooms themselves are styled in the traditional country house manner with high ceilings, fireplaces, and antique furniture. The Connaught Restaurant is headed by Michelin-starred chef Angela Hartnett and serves traditional European and English cuisine. There is also a Connaught Bar for drinks and The Red Room for lounging and afternoon tea. Business services are available, as is a gym, and guests have complimentary use of the spa at Claridge's, a nearby partner hotel.
