Situated directly on Russell Square, this large, lavish, Victorian luxury hotel recently underwent a complete renovation, restoring it to the grandeur of the age in which it was built. The gilded lobby has a huge mosaic floor that was uncovered and restored after being covered for years due to damage it sustained during World War II. The 373 variously sized rooms are equally as ornamented with period features, lush furnishings, soundproofing, and elegant muted-tone design details. The hotel offers a large conference facility and is fully equipped with high-tech supplies. Fitzroy Doll's restaurant is a classy, romantic gourmet restaurant décorated in the same high style. The Victorian style King's Bar offers traditional afternoon tea, light snacks, sandwiches, and cocktails. The Russell Square location makes for easy access to the many attractions in the neighborhood, or anywhere else in the city via the Russell Square Tube station across the street. Just nearby are historic Covent Garden and the nightlife of Soho. There's also plenty of shopping on Oxford, Bond, and Regent Streets. Another nearby famous attraction is the British Museum, the largest museum in the world. The hotel is within easy reach of Piccadilly Circus and the glittering West End theater district as well as London's main financial center. The Hotel Russell offers authentic luxury in the best of locations. The room was clean and fully provisioned with towels and coffees. Elevators worked and were not overcrowded. Breakfast was good with reasonably prompt service.
We were given really poor quality rooms, unrefurbished and had to argue twice just to have a proper room. Usually happens when we book via internet sites.
