Located on London's vibrant South Bank with a waterfront view overlooking the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, the County Hall Gallery makes its home in the historic County Hall, next to the BA London Eye.
However, what draws the crowds is the Dali Universe, which is permanently housed by the gallery. The collection is mostly sculpture and water color lithographs, no paintings. The Surrealist's work is organized around three different themes: Sensuality & Femininity, Religion & Mythology, and Dreams & Fantasy. You will be surprised as to how much you will enjoy not only his sculpture, but also his drawings.
While you are there check out the sculpture Venus Traversee par les Lengs Tiroirs (1988) which is a spoof on the figure of Venus from antiquity. This is a life size sculpture of Venus with extensions coming out of her forehead, mouth, stomach and legs.
There are also halls exhibiting the works of Pablo Picasso and Nasser Azam.
At the book store you will find other works of Dali, that you may want to take back with you. You can also get tour guides and audio guides at a nominal charge from the book store. You will be inspired by the extensive range of posters, prints and postcards, not forgetting Dali-inspired desk toys, accessories and T-Shirts.
Other top London attractions in the neighborhood include the Imperial War Museum and the St. Pauls Cathedral.
Best Western Premier Shaftesbury Piccadilly is a modern, well-equipped hotel, worth a try. It is close to the Hyde Park, and not far from Oxford Street.
