Founded in 1971 at 8, Great Newport Street, this is London's primary venue for contemporary photography, and is the first independent gallery in Britain devoted to medium. In 1980, the Gallery expanded into 5, Great Newport Street.
The Gallery has established photography as a more popular and accessible medium of expression. The gallery was the first ever to display prominent names in world photography such as André Kertesz, Jaques-Henri Lartigue and Irving Penn. There is an year-round program of exhibitions and educational events and a wide range of photographic work is on display, highlighting the developments in the art.
Nearby you can find The Ivy, which has an array of modern dishes like ribeye steak béarnaise, sheperd's pie and Thai baked sea bass. Later, if you feel like meeting new people at a chic place, visit the Light Bar.
