The jewel in the crown of London's famous South Kensington shopping and cultural area, the Victoria and Albert Museum boasts the best and most assorted collection of decorative art and design in the world, dating back from 3000 BC to the present.
The museum is home to 145 galleries, including national collections of sculpture, furniture, fashion and photographs. Education, through exhibitins, activities, programs and publications, lies at the heart of the V&A's purpose.
You will be amazed to know that V&A has around four million exhibits from all periods and areas of the world. Displays include sculpture, jewelry, enamels, silver, miniatures, water colors, pottery, glass, furniture, weapons, musical instruments and costumes. Visitors will notice that the Art and Design galleries are arranged by themes and by place and date, for example the Materials & Techniques galleries are arranged by the type of material.
V&A's collection of paintings, drawings and prints is housed in the six storey Henry Cole Wing. The museum is also home to National Collection of Art of Photography.
While you are in the neighborhood, try to visit the Kensington Palace, Science Museum, Hyde Park and Chelsea Physic Gardens.
A nice hotel near the museum is the Thistle Westminster, a deluxe modern hotel just a few minutes from the Royal and Political London.
