Now you can come face to face with the world's most dangerous and rare animals at the London Zoo in The Regent's Park, world's most famous zoo. The zoo houses 650 species, 12,000 animals, including an amazing range of reptiles, fish, invertebrates, birds and smaller mammals. Of these, 112 species are facing extinction.
Guests can hand feed some the animals and talk to the animal keepers to learn more about life at the zoo. The new exhibits Meet the Monkeys and African Bird Safari allow visitors to walk amongst the squirrel monkeys and exotic birds. The Children's Zoo allows young children to interact with baby goats, llamas and rabbits.
Visitors can see some very rare species at the Aquarium, Elephant House, Penguin Pool, Snowdon Aviary and the new Web of Life exhibition. Meet with the black footed penguins and the bearded pigs. See the Bali Starling, Black Hornbill bird and the Black Vultures. Don't forget to see the Komodo dragon, the world's largest lizard with deadly saliva. Enjoy watching the playful otters swimming underwater as they chase each other in and out of the pools and waterfalls.
Another interesting thing about London Zoo is the story of Winnie the Pooh. In 1914, at the beginning of World War I, Winnie an American black bear was deposited at the Zoo by a Canadian lieutenant. The bear was visited by A.A. Milne, who later wrote the stories of Winnie the Pooh. Winnie soon became world famous and today still remains popular.
