Marble Arch

Bulit in 1828 as the main entrance to Buckingham Palace, the Marble Arch was moved in 1851 after extensive renovations to the palace were done and it was moved t its current location at the entrance of Hyde Park. It stands near the Speakers Corner, at the western end of Oxford Street, and is also located near the infamous Tyburn Tree, where public executions were performed from 1388 until 1793.

The arch is made of carrara marble, which is found in Italy and has been used since Ancient Roman times. This type of marble was also a favorite with Michelangelo. The structure has three rooms that were once used as a police station.

While you are in the neighborhood you may also want to visit other famous London attractions such as Piccadilly Circus and Green Park.

The nearest chic restaurant is Le Gavroche. This place has a dark and quite feel; and serves classic French cuisine. Try their lobster mousse with caviar, it is really good. Other restaurants nearby include Shogun, Al Sultan and Nobu.

If you feel like having a drink, visit the nearby Dorchester Bar and the Met Bar.
