Houses of Paliament

The Houses of Parliament is located in Westminster and is a familiar London landmark, home to the Clock Tower which houses Big Ben.  A light above the clock signifies the sitting of House of Commons.

The Houses of Parliament is a 900 years old Gothic building, which has more than 1,000 rooms and more than 1.5 miles of passages.

The guided tour lasts approximately 75 minutes, starting in the Queen's Robing Room then proceeding to the Royal Gallery and Prince's Chamber, the rooms used by the House of Lords and the House of Commons, and ending in St. Stephen's Hall and Westminster Hall.

Notice the deep red furniture and ornate decoration of the House of Lords as compared to the more common green and plain interiors in the House of Commons. Visitors might be surprised to see how modern the building despite its age.

Visitors can plan to attend a debate in both the Houses by visiting the public galleries when the Parliament is meeting. For more info about the timings of the House of Common sessions, please visit http://www.parliament.uk/directories/hcio/gallery.cfm.

Other attractions nearby include Westminster Abbey, the Florence Nightingale Museum and the London Eye.
