Piccadilly Circus, named after a 17th century frilly collar called a picadil, is a busy place all yearound except you do not get to see any clowns here. The circus used to be heavily illuminated by neon signs, but now only one building displays the large glitzy signage. Piccadilly is an intersection that joins Regent and Coventry Streets, Shaftsbury Avenue, and Piccadilly.
Visitors coming from Green Park tube station should walk towards Piccadilly Circus on the right hand side of the road. Once there, one can visit the famous food boutique, Fortnum and Masons. In the midst of a big roundabout is the focal point of the circus, a statue of Eros with a little fountain, where most of the tourists have their photos taken.
Other attractions close to Piccadilly Circus includes the National Portrait Gallery, Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, St. Martin-in-the-Fields and the British Museum.
