The Royal Opera House used to be a play house staging Christmas pantomimes until the 1930s. It is now world famous for its Royal Opera and Ballet productions. At the Royal Opera House, patrons can watch spectacular and world-class opera, ballet and dance performances. In addition to the performances, visitors can take part in talks and visit exhibitions.

Backstage tours are also available here, letting visitors look behind the curtains to see how one of the world's foremost theatre prepares for its performance. Visitors can also learn more about the the latest technologies in use.

Smoking is not permitted anywhere except outside on the Amphitheatre Terrace. The Royal Opera House is wheelchair accessible.

From the Opera House if you take a one minute walk to the north west, you will get to Cafe des Amis. You will find the crab cocktail a knockout, and the chocolate puddings quite luscious. 

If you wish to stay in the neighborhood, try the Thistle Trafalgar Square or the Thistle Piccadilly.
